Little Derricott – A brief holiday cottage web design case study

Natalie Lees of Derricott asked us to create a website for her brand new luxury holiday cottage in Devon, Little Derricott. As this was a new venture for Natalie she also asked us to help her with the branding of the property website.

Holiday Cottage Design & Branding

We came up with three initial logo designs to help Natalie decide what style she wanted to go for. The first style was based around the Arts & Crafts look and feel, the second was a classic yet personal style and the third style was quirky & cute.

Natalie felt that the second style suited her property best so the next step was to decide on colours. We asked Natalie what colours she had used in the cottage and based on that we came up with the following colour scheme.

Holiday Cottage Website Creation

Our suggested site structure was sent to Natalie and we gave her a list of items we needed to carry on creating her website. We discussed options for the domain name and following our input Natalie decided to go for www.derricott.co.uk. This way she could scale up the website if in the future she decided to add any more properties.

Next, Natalie sent us a text document with the text for the various pages and a batch of high resolution images. We selected the best images to use and created slideshows and galleries. We built the website around the cottage’s main selling points, for instance by picking three of them and using them as featured item boxes on the homepage. We also created call to action buttons throughout the site. These encourage visitors to delve further into the site, get in touch or book online. Finally we advised Natalie on which online booking systems would be best suited to her business. We integrated this into the website and styled it to match the website in order to create a seamless process.

The End Result

Natalie was delighted with the end result. She said: “Konrad from Handmade was absolutely fabulous when creating my website. I had no idea on how to promote my cottage through a website and Konrad just took the basic details from me and magically put together the most fantastic site. He has kept me informed every step of the way to make sure it was just what I wanted and listed for me all the pictures and wording I needed. The website has exceeded my expectations and I am over the moon with Konrad’s work I would highly recommend him.”

Since going live and promoting her site on Romantic Retreats, Natalie has had back to back guests and already has plenty of bookings for the coming year.
